Digital Photo Albums
Software to create web photo albums
The following programs are all available in the New Media Lab. All of them will take input from a digital camera, a CD-ROM or hard drive.
Put all of your pictures into one folder and create a separate folder for the digital photo album. All of these programs will ask for the “input” folder and will ask you to select the “output” or “destination” folder.
They also have options for how you want to navigate through the images and whether you want the filename to be displayed. Follow the directions for each program to customize the look of your digital photo album.
Dreamweaver and Fireworks: when in document view mode (rather than the “site view”), select “Commands > Create Web Photo Album…”
Photoshop: “File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery…”
iPhoto (Mac): “File > Export” and choose “web”
Other Services for Photo Albums
If you don’t have access to your own web space, you might consider putting your digital photos online elsewhere. One of the most popular sites for this is Flickr. Flickr allows you to upload photos, create sets and lets you categorize your photos.
Yahoo also offers a web photo service. They also allow you to order prints of your pictures or of anyone’s photos who have been made public.
Google’s Picassa is a free download that allows you to organize albums and share them.
Web Services that will print digital images
Use the services listed below to print your digital images on photo quality paper. Many of them also offer cards or calendars and sharing an online album with other family members to print from.
Prices vary, but are on the order of $.50 per print plus shipping & handling.
Ofoto (http://www.ofoto.com) - currently running a $.20 offer. Got a good review in a recent PC Magazine.
